Paddle`s Journal

Day 3

Today I was put in the snow by a little boy. I got very cold. I saw wood mice , white owls , rabbits , wolves , a wolverine , and a weasel. I was very happy when they got near. I finally fell in a river. I saw lots of trees. The little boy came by and yelled, “You have started on your journey, Paddle-to-the-sea! “

Day 4

What a beautiful place. I broke through a dam! I saw a muskrat, a beaver, a mink, a skunk, a porcupine and a old buck deer. The buck deer hit his one antler on a log and the antler fell into the mud with a plop.

Day 5

The icy river was still frozen until today. Today the water pushed up the ice and the river finally broke up. I went into the middle of the mad breakup of the river and tumbled along the river at the ice. I hit a log and got jammed in the side of the log. I got carried underwater on the bottom of the log, underwater.

Day 6

My log is four feet big. I am lucky that I am on the bottom of the log, not the top or the sides. Otherwise I would be awfully damaged. I went to a red sawmill. Men kept poking my log. I wasn't happy. one of the men yelped in suprise when he saw me. The teeth of the sawmill is so fast that they are a blur. I got pulled closer and closer to the hungry sawmill.

Day 7

The blur came closer and closer and cut into the end of my log. I got grabbed by a big hand! A lumberjack saved me, yay! Then all the lumberjacks laughed how I came into the sawmill on a log. The lumberjacks made my bronze writing now say PLEASE PUT ME BACK IN THE WATER I AM PADDLE-TO-THE-SEA FROM NIPIGON COUNTRY, CANADA. Then the lumberjack yelled "Have a good voyage!"

Day 11

Today I made it to the end of Lake Superior! Yay. Sometimes the wind gusts blow me a mile every hour, cool! Also, some wind gusts pull me backwards so it takes me 5 hours to travel a mile. I got to a wilderness shore. I saw a couple indians in canoes.
